The construction of The Hive has reached an important milestone. The final floor has been poured, bringing the building to its highest point. With the structural shell now complete, the project on Cornelis Lelylaan is taking on its definitive form.

For a long time, The Hive was mainly visible through plans, impressions and construction drawings. Today, the entire structural frame is in place. The load-bearing structure has been completed, marking the end of an important phase of construction. Over the coming months, the focus will increasingly shift indoors, to the building services, the apartments and their finishing.

To mark the occasion, ION and Green Real Estate raised the flag together on the roof of The Hive. From there, it is easy to see how the building relates to the city, the surrounding greenery and Lelylaan Station.

“When you stand up here, you really see what has been achieved over the past few months. The entire load-bearing structure is now in place, which means we have successfully completed an important phase of construction. From this point on, the focus increasingly shifts indoors: to the homes, the installations and, soon, the finishing touches. The Hive is becoming more and more a place where people can genuinely imagine living,” says Bastiaan Bijloos, Development Manager at Green Real Estate.

Pouring the final floor is also a special moment for the construction team. At this stage, elements of the structure are still visible that will later be completely hidden from view.

“You can see the concrete, the reinforcement and all the work that will soon no longer be visible. At the same time, the building now stands as we once designed it on paper. From here on, it is increasingly about the details residents will experience every day: their apartment, the finishing and, of course, the view,” says Rik Verwaest, Senior Project Developer at ION.

The next phase of The Hive

Now that the structural shell is complete, the construction site will change quickly. Over the coming period, work will continue on the building services, apartments and communal areas. Step by step, the visible construction work will make way for the finished residential building.

The Hive will be an energy-positive residential building with a strong focus on greenery and excellent connections to the city. Thanks to its location close to Lelylaan Station, Amsterdam Zuid, the city centre and Schiphol are all within easy reach.

Reaching the highest point also brings completion one step closer. In around a year, the first residents are expected to receive the keys to their new home.

A limited number of apartments still available

A large proportion of the apartments at The Hive have already been sold. At present, only a few one-bedroom apartments remain available.

Those choosing a home at The Hive today are no longer buying purely from plans. The building is standing, its shape is clearly visible, and over the coming months it will become increasingly clear what the completed residential building will look and feel like.
